What is a Murder Mystery event?
A murder mystery night is an interactive social game, where participants work to solve a fictional crime, in this case a murder, that unfolds over the course of the evening.
Each guest receives a specific character role, complete with a unique backstory, hidden secrets, and potential motives. One person at the party is secretly the killer.
Guests mingle, ask questions, share clues, and interrogate one another to see who is lying.
What is the theme?
It is a Wild West theme, so dig out your boots, checked shirts and hats!
How long is the event?
Please arrive no later than 6:45pm ahead of the 7:00pm start time. The event will last until roughly 10:30pm.
We will be taking a break during the evening for those who have ordered the optional charcuterie board (vegetarian option also available).
How busy will it be?
Spaces are strictly limited to 45 characters, to ensure everyone has enough space to move around freely to work through the clues and dialogue. Based on all our previous events we expect this to be fully booked.
Is it suitable for all?
The event is over 18s only.
It will also involve speaking to your fellow players, so whilst we endeavour to make the event all inclusive, please do bear in mind that you will be interacting, in some cases, with complete strangers.
Can I dress up?
Absolutely - in fact, we encourage it - we certainly are! However, if that's not your thing, feel free to wear your regular clothing - whatever you are most comfortable doing.
It is a private, ticket only event, so it'll only be those participating in the event on-site. It is Wild West themed, so if you didn't want to go overboard, a checked shirt would do the trick!
Is there a minimum or maximum booking size?
The short answer is no, as everyone is allocated a unique character. As such you can turn up by yourself, or come along as a group.
Can I take photos?
Absolutely - snap away! We will also be taking photos for our social media and website. Rest assured we will be blurring all faces ahead of any uploads, to protect your personal privacy.
Food & drink.
There are optional charcuterie boards available, including vegetarian options.
The Old Bell offers a wide range of both alcoholic and non alcoholic drink options.
Dates and Timings.
The event starts at 7:00pm. We would kindly ask that you arrive no later than 6:45pm. We are aiming to be done by 10.30pm.

How do I get there and where can I park?
If driving, the pub has a number of available car parking spaces, to the rear of the building.
There is also street parking available and a public car park - "Bell St Car Park", which is 0.1 miles from the pub.
If on the train, Sawbridgeworth railway station is a 0.5 mile walk from the pub.
Do I need to bring anything?
No - we supply everything you will need on the night.
